Size And Capacity
Rice cookers come in different sizes and capacities. Unlike most kitchen appliances, these cookers don' t take more space than a large vessel. The capacity of a rice cooker is measured by a total number of rice cups it can cook. Electric rice cookers are available with capacities ranging from 1 to 6 litres, and some even more. While buying an electric cooker, the first thing to consider is the size of your family. If you are a small family of 5 to 6 people, consider buying a cooker of 3 to 5 liters of capacity. Also, consider how many cups of rice you typically need.

Easy To Operate
Most electric cookers come with a one-touch operation. This means you only have to add rice, a sufficient amount of water and let the cooker do the rest. There are more advanced electric cookers with digital controls and functions. There are functions such as self-timer/delay start, automatic keep warm, slow cooking, steaming and more. It is ideal to have a self-timer or delay start function in an electric rice cooker. It sets the cooker to start functioning at a specified time and even tells you the time left until the rice is ready to serve. These features let you automate things and you can be rest assured your rice will be ready when it' s time to eat.

Types Of Lids
Some rice cookers come with a see-through lid, while others have a close fit stainless steel lid. A see-through lid is great to have, since you can check on the rice when it is cooking.

Designs That Are Easy To Clean
For easy cleaning, make sure the cooking bowl and lid are dishwasher safe. You can easily remove and clean the cooking bowl and a lid with a sponge scrub and water. Selecting a cooker with a stainless steel, aluminium or a non-stick coated cooking bowl is always beneficial in the long run.

Automatic Shut-off Function
This feature is found in almost all rice cookers. The use of ‘‘Automatic Shut-Off’’ function is that the cooker automatically toggles the switch to ‘‘Keep Warm’’ function once the rice is ready. This means, you don' t necessarily have to keep monitoring the rice while it is cooking.

Multi-purpose Rice Cookers
It' s also worth considering a multi-purpose rice cooker, if you are a large family. It is handy when there is one appliance that can do multiple tasks. There are rice cookers that can steam vegetables, meat and fish along with the rice. Some other cooker models also let you heat or simmer soups and cook pulses.

Out-of-box Accessories
Most advanced electric rice cookers come with a set of accessories. Depending on the cooker model you select, you may find a steaming insert tray, measuring cups, steam tray, serving spatula and spoons, all out of the box.

Warranty And After Sales Service
When buying a rice cooker, check the warranty offered by the brand. Most brands offer 2 years of warranty. For detailed information, speak to the store associate or refer to the brand' s official website. Like any other devices at home, the rice cooker is an important kitchen appliance, something that you' ll use for a very long time. After-sales support is very important.

Electric Rice Cooker Market Size

Electric Rice Cooker Market was valued at approximately USD 3.5 billion in 2023 and is anticipated to register a CAGR of 5.8% between 2024 and 2032. Rice preparation is made easier with electric rice cookers. They require less attention than other methods and remove the possibility of rice burning or undercooking. Convenience is a key motivator, particularly for homes with active members.

Rice cooked using traditional hob methods needs to be constantly watched over. You must monitor for the water to boil away, stir from time to time, and regulate the heat. All of that watching over is eliminated with electric rice cookers. The rice cooker is designed to automatically adjust the temperature and turn off when the rice is cooked to perfection. For individuals who are too busy to stand over a pot, this hands-free method is invaluable. For uniform and constant rice cooking, they use automatic temperature controls.

Electric rice cookers offer a simple and reliable way to cook delicious rice and other dishes without the hassle or stress. This focus on convenience is a major driver for the growth of the electric rice cooker market, making them a popular choice for busy people who still want to enjoy delicious and healthy meals.

How Rice Cookers Work

Rice cookers operate on a relatively straightforward principle, automating the cooking process to deliver consistently perfect results. Here's hot they work:

Water Measurement

The first step is to measure the rice and add the appropriate amount of water. This ratio can vary depending on the type of rice and personal preferences, but rice cookers often come with handy guidelines for water-to-rice ratios.

Heat Source

Rice cookers use a heat source, typically an electric heating element, to generate heat. The heating element is located beneath the cooking pot.

Thermostat & Sensors

Inside the rice cooker, there are temperature sensors and a thermostat that work together to monitor the temperature of the cooking pot. When you start the cooker, it begins heating.

Boiling Phase

As the water heats up, it eventually reaches its boiling point, causing it to evaporate and create steam. The temperature sensors and thermostat work in tandem to ensure the pot does not exceed a boiling temperature.

Simmering Phase

Once most of the water has evaporated and the temperature reaches a certain point, the rice cooker transitions from a boiling phase to a simmering phase. During this phase, the remaining water is absorbed by the rice grains, resulting in perfectly cooked rice.

Keep Warm Function

Many rice cookers are equipped with a "keep warm" function. Once the rice is cooked, this function kicks in, maintaining a steady, low temperature to keep the rice warm and ready to serve without overcooking or burning.

General Structure of the Electric Rice Cooker

Hot Plate
That’s the main heating element of an electric rice cooker. This is an aluminum alloy disc with an electric heating tube embedded in it, the inner pot is placed on it and can be seen once you removing the inner pot.

Temperature limiter(Thermostat)
Also known as magnetic steel. It is internally provided with a permanent magnetic ring and a spring which can be pressed and positioned at the center of the heating plate. When cooking, once the cooking switch is pressed, the lever switch is driven by the suction force of the magnetic steel to keep the power contact on, when cooking rice, the temperature of the bottom of the pot is continuously increased, the suction force of the permanent magnetic ring is weakened along with the increase of the temperature.

Heat Preservation Switch(Thermal Insulation Switch)
Also known as thermostat. It consists of a spring plate, a pair of normally closed contacts, a pair of normally open contacts and a bimetallic strip. During cooking, the temperature in the pot rises, and the bimetallic plate is bent upward as a result of the difference in thermal expansion rates between the two metal sheets constituting the bimetallic plate. When the temperature reaches more than 80degree Celsius, under the push of the upward bent bimetallic strip, the spring strip drives the normally open contact and the normally closed contact to switch, so as to cut off the power supply of the heating pipe and stop heating. When the temperature in the pot drops below 80c, the bimetallic strip gradually cools and recovers, the normally open and normally closed contacts are switched again, the heating tube is switched on to heat. Thus, the heat preservation effect is achieved.

Lever Switch
This switch is purely mechanical and has a normally open contact. When cooking, press this switch to turn on the heating tube and power the heating indicator to turn it on. When the meal is good, the temperature limiter plays down and drives the lever switch to break the contact. Since then, the heating tube is only controlled by the thermal insulation switch.

Current Limiting Resistance
The appearance is golden or white, the size is like 3w resistance, press between the heating tube and the power supply, which plays a role in protecting the heating tube. The common current limiting resistance is 185 c5a or 10A(depending on the power of the electric cooker). Current limiting resistance is the key element to protect the heating pipe, and can be replaced by wire.

What is the Difference Between Rice Cookers and Rice Steamer

Rice cookers and rice steamers are both great for making rice, but each has its unique function. Rice cookers are electric appliances that have a heated inner pot. They are typically programmed to switch from warming to cooking mode at a certain time, and you can program them to switch off at any desired time as well.

Rice steamers are typically bamboo or stainless steel and have perforated or slatted racks to let steam escape. These racks can be placed over a pot of boiling water or a rice cooker to steam rice.

These cooking methods are very similar and will yield delicious results. The main difference between the two is how they cook the rice.

A rice cooker has a heating element in the base and cooks the rice from the bottom up. A rice steamer, on the other hand, has a heat source above the rice, and it cooks the rice from the top down.

Rice Cooker Features
1

Rice Cooker Sizes & Capacity
The cup measures the size of the rice cooker and they range from 3 to 10 cups. Don't buy a larger unit than you need because the rice cooker is designed to operate properly with a specific amount of rice and water.

2

Automatic Shut-Off
All rice cookers have an automatic shut off. When rice is done the unit automatically changes to the "warm" temperature. There is no light that indicates that the rice is done. If you want to turn off the "warm" feature you have to unplug the unit. There are some rice cookers that have "electronic cook" and "keep warm" feature. In this case the unit keeps rice warm for up to 12 hours. If you are family that eats rice during the long period of time these rice cookers might be the ones for you.

3

Steaming Trays
Some rice cookers offer steaming trays. You are able to steam your vegetables while you are cooking rice. You can also steam your vegetables before or after the rice is done. Even though they cost more than a basic model, these machines are a great choice if you are looking for something more flexible and sturdy.

4

Cleaning
When it comes to cleaning you should choose a model with a non-stick pan. Non-stick pans, as the name suggests are non-stick, which means that you won't have to work hard to clean the pan.

Q: What are the benefits of electric rice cookers?

A: Rice cookers are highly effective kitchen appliances. They streamline the cooking process, ensuring consistent and perfectly cooked rice every time. Moreover, many models often come with additional functionalities such as steaming, and boiling, making them versatile and efficient tools in the kitchen.

Q: Is it good to cook rice in electric cooker?

A: There is no health or nutritional difference between using a rice cooker or an ordinary saucepan for cooking rice. If a rice cooker causes you to eat rice more often, that dietary change could be good, bad, or indifferent.

Q: What can we cook in electric rice cooker?

A: Can you cook anything else in a rice cooker? Yes, besides cooking rice, electric rice cookers can be used to prepare a variety of other dishes. You can steam vegetables, fish, or dumplings, make soups, stews, or porridge, and even cook pasta, quinoa, or lentils.

Q: Can you cook anything else in a rice cooker?

A: A rice cooker is also good for soups, stews, and curries, and can also cook puddings and sauces. You can prepare ingredients the night before in the lift-out pot and then leave them in the fridge overnight, though it's best to bring them to room temperature in the morning before cooking.

Q: Are rice cookers worth buying?

A: Are rice cookers worth it? In our opinion, yes, they are. A good rice cooker is easy to use and will make well-cooked rice and keep it warm for a prolonged period of time. If you love rice and eat a lot of it, there are few kitchen gadgets that are as useful as a rice cooker.

Q: Are rice cookers better than pots?

A: Compared to a pot, a rice cooker offers many advantages that may not be immediately obvious at the first place. You always get evenly cooked rice and can keep it warm for several hours at the same time. At the same time, you also save time - while the rice is cooking, you can do many other things.

Q: How long does an electric rice cooker take?

A: How Long Does a Rice Cooker Take? Typically, cooking a large quantity of rice in a rice cooker takes between 25 and 35 minutes. Different types of rice require different quantities of water and cooking times. Fortunately, a rice cooker is able to gauge when the rice is finished cooking and turns off automatically.

Q: How do you cook rice in an electric rice cooker without sticking it?

A: First, rinse your rice under running water before transferring it to the rice cooker; this washes away excess starch and helps make the rice less sticky. Second, let the rice rest after cooking for at least 10 minutes with the lid on before serving.

Q: What is the purpose of the electric cooker?

A: An electric stove, electric cooker or electric range is a stove with an integrated electrical heating device to cook and bake. Electric stoves became popular as replacements for solid-fuel (wood or coal) stoves which required more labor to operate and maintain.

Q: Do you really need a rice cooker to cook rice?

A: These easy stovetop methods yield tender, fluffy rice every time. Rumor has it that you need a rice cooker or an Instant pot to cook fluffy, tender rice at home. Well, I'm here to tell you that the rumors aren't true. Cooking rice on the stove is quick and easy, and if you do it the right way, it works every time.

Q: Can I use a rice cooker to cook noodles?

A: To be clear, you CAN cook soupy/saucy noodles in a rice cooker, but you wouldn't be able to take advantage of the auto-shutoff, which means that it's no different from doing it in a pot on the stove. But if you're in a dorm room with no stove, then yes, you can use your rice cooker just like a regular pot!

Q: Can you boil eggs in a rice cooker?

A: Press the cook switch down and set a timer for: 8 minutes for SOFT boiled, 11 minutes for MEDIUM boiled, 13 minutes for HARD boiled. Once the time has elapsed, transfer the eggs immediately to a bowl of iced water to keep the eggs from cooking further.

Q: Can I boil potatoes in a rice cooker?

A: Cooking potatoes in a rice cooker is unbelievably simple and easy. Since I used red potatoes, all I had to do was quarter them. I used five potatoes in the rice cooker and an inch of water (two inches would be better). Put on the lid and switched it on.

Q: How does an electric rice cooker work?

A: A basic rice cooker has a main body (pot), an inner cooking container which holds the rice, an electric heating element, and a thermostat. The bowl is filled with rice and water and heated at full power; the water reaches and stays at boiling point (100 °C, 212 °F).

Q: Do rice cookers use a lot of electricity?

A: The average rice cooker uses about 400 watts of power per hour, so this unit will provide 2-3 hours operation for the average rice cooker.

Q: Should I put oil in a rice cooker?

A: Adding oil to your rice can make it less sticky once cooked, and infuse it with different flavors. One negative, however, is that oil loads your rice with extra calories.

Q: Can you cook regular food in a rice cooker?

A: But rice cookers can do more than just cook rice. People in Japan often turn to their rice cooker to cook all sorts of things from fish to hard-boiled eggs, cake, and more. A search for “rice cooker recipes” on the popular Japanese recipe site, CookPad, results in over 27,319 recipes.

Q: Why do you need a rice cooker?

A: Since rice cookers cook fluffy rice perfectly, every time. Even the most adept of stove-top rice chefs sometimes end up with mushy, slimy rice that's crusted to the pot and impossible to clean. And when the texture of your rice is off, the structural and textural integrity of your entire meal is in jeopardy.

Q: What is the difference between a rice cooker and a normal cooker?

A: Ideal for almost all recipes. You can enjoy cooking various dishes with a pressure cooker than rice cookers, which mainly serve for cooking rice and some handful dishes. A pressure cooker can help you prepare delicious meals, from cooking lentils to meat items.
